Robert Haag, 18, of the Unionville-Sebewaing Area FFA Chapter, Sebewaing, Michigan, was named the national winner of the Diversified Crop Production -Placement proficiency award at the 74th National FFA Convention October 26, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Proficiency award programs recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gained hands-on career experience. Diversified Crop Production-Placement is one of 46 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state, and national levels. The Diversified Crop Production-Placement Award Program is sponsored by Rain and Hail Insurance Service, Inc.
Robert Haag was motivated to learn all possible from planting the seed to marketing the crop when he began his SAE. Robert's placement is on a 1,000-acre cash crop operation including sugarbeets, beans and corn. He has worked almost 1,500 hours with responsibilities including planting, defoliating and recruiting high school students to chop weeds. Robert attends Michigan State University majoring in crop and soil sciences. He plans to help operate the family farm.
Robert is the son of Thomas and Bonnie Haag. Robert's advisor is Carl Kieser.
