Rain and Hail employees are committed to their community

Rain and Hail L.L.C., an agricultural insurance provider, and its employee owners have again given thousands of dollars and donated time to the communities in which they work and live. Rain and Hail and its employee owners are committed to improving the lives of others, even when it means giving up their Saturday, or a part of their paycheck.

In 2007, the Rain and Hail Sponsorship Committee, who plans for and organizes all of the community commitment events within the company’s Johnston office, planned a variety of events during which employees and the company can donate to a variety of organizations. This year, employees contributed more than $25,000 and numerous hours to seven non-profit organizations. As a company, Rain and Hail donated almost $30,000 in company match programs and annual donations to a number of organizations that give back to the local community. Many of the donations are made to organizations that are requested by employees, because the organization is working toward a cause that is important to that person. Rain and Hail and its employee owners demonstrate each year through their actions that by giving back to the community, they make a positive difference.

Some of the community commitment highlights from 2007 include:

  • Participation in a bi-annual blood drive. In 2007, 53 volunteers donated blood.
  • Daffodil Days, a program that supports cancer research, provided nearly 50 participants the opportunity to anonymously send a bouquet of daffodils to local cancer patients in the hospital to brighten their day. In this effort, nearly $2,000 was donated to the American Cancer Society.
  • In addition to monetary donations, 99 Rain and Hail employees donated 200 bags of much needed items during the Salvation Army drive.
  • Christmas in July, which provides the New Directions Shelter the supplies it needs to temporarily house homeless families, inspired 72 participants to fill a truckload full of items and donate over $1,000.
  • A group of employees spent a Saturday helping build a Habitat for Humanity house.
  • The United Way Drive, the largest fundraiser at Rain and Hail, raised $21,954 in employee pledges for 2008, of which the company matches dollar for dollar.
  • The final sponsorship program of the year was the Toys for Tots donation collection. Employees generously filled the box with toys making the holidays brighter for many boys and girls.

In addition to the company-wide activities, many employees participate in and donate to philanthropic events during their own spare time, ranging from Special Olympics to SIDS to ChildServe. Rain and Hail and its employee owners are committed to giving back to their community enriching the lives of others.
